Children’s Preschool Division ages 3-5 years

3-4 yrs. Tap/Ballet/Creative Movement

students must be 2.5 years old by August 31, 2017

Designed to begin the true joy of dance for the littlest dancers (boys and girls), this one-hour weekly class consists of a combination of dance genres taught during each class. The basics are taught in tap and ballet technique. Children explore dance through movement, music and narrative. Children are encouraged to use imagination and explore Musicality through creative movement. 12 students Max per class. One recital dance and costume.

This 30 minute weekly class introduces our 4 – 5 year old dancers to basic hip hop technique for the preschool aged dancer (boys and girls). Building strength & learning style while studying hip choreography will challenge the preschool aged dancer in an exciting, high-energy, child-friendly atmosphere. 12 students max per class. Students wear sneakers and LDC black logo’d shirt. Musicality and style are developed further in this class. Strongly suggest that these students enroll in 1-hour tap/ballet. One recital dance and costume.

6-8 yrs. Ballet A (1st, 2nd, 3rd Grade)

This hour 90 minute beginning ballet class will teach the positive benefits are associated with learning the art of ballet including skill, grace, poise, self discipline and self confidence. You will begin by learning the rules and traditional techniques of ballet which have been handed down over the centuries. The dancers will slowly transition to Barre and Center-floor combinations will challenge the dancers while instilling grace and coordination. Dancers will learn Variations such as the Nutcracker’s Clara Doll Dance & Four Little SwansOne recital dance and costume. DRESS CODE…BLACK LEOTARD, PINK TIGHTS.

Lyrical style interprets the music in an emotionally expressive way. Increasingly popular in the last few decades, lyrical dance is commonly danced to music of any style, including classical, pop, or rock. One recital dance and costume.

Ballet B 1-2 9 -11yrs 4th – 6th Grade 

Must be 9 by August 31, 2017

This 90 minute beginning ballet class focuses on technique, strength and aesthetics. This class provides a welcoming & friendly environment, with individualized instruction & attention. Throughout this class, dancers will learn the basic body positons, core ballet exercises such as plie’ & tendu. 18-22 students per class. One recital dance and costume.

Ballet/ Pre-Pointe B3-4 9 -11yrs 4th – 6th Grade 

This 75 minute class on Monday and 90 minute class on Wednesday must be taken together. The faculty continues to guide students in proper positioning, body alignment and technical knowledge. Barre and Center-floor combinations will challenge the dancers while instilling grace and coordination. Students at this level focus on increased center floor work, particularly in the areas of petite allegro and pirouettes. One recital dance and costume.

Ballet C 1-2 Beginning 12 yr old & up (7th graders & up)

This 60 minute beginning ballet class focuses on technique, strength and aesthetics. This class provides a welcoming & friendly environment, with individualized instruction & attention. An emphasis on proper body alignment will be a key point of focus, in addition to hip rotation and postural placement. Students will be introduced to the technique of spotting with the head while turning both in the center & across the floor. Dancers will also expand their ballet vocabulary while learning new movements & positions. One recital dance and costume.Image-1(1)

Ballet C3-4 Advanced 12 yr old & up (7th graders & up)

This one-hour & fifteen minute ballet class focuses on technique, strength and aesthetics for the serious dancers. This class will move at a much quicker pace, offering complex Barre and Center-floor combinations that will challenge the dancers preparing them for performance and study at nationally recognized dance institutions. At this level, dancers should begin to explore & develop their artistry, musicality & epaulement. Students must be enrolled in the Ballet C3-4 class twice a week. By invitation. One recital dance and costume.

This 30-minute class follows the Ballet C3-4 technique class and focuses on technique, strength & aesthetics en pointe. Classic Repertoire Variations may be taught. Invitation only based on strength & physical development. Twice a week.

Jazz Funk

This fun new Friday Class, Jazz funk  is influenced by the Hip Hop dance style. Much like the Hip Hop, Jazz Funk has been often fast-paced and quick intricate  movements.

This one-hour beginners class focuses on jazz technique in an energized fun class with both classic music & current music of today. Technique and style will be taught through progressions and center floor combinations. Students will continue to explore traditional jazz and lyrical/contemporary jazz styles. Jazz B3-4 (4th – 6th grade 9 – 11yrs)

This one-hour energized fun class focuses jazz technique with both classic music & current music of today. It provides solid technical training, which is essential to the progression of a beginner. This method encourages a general lengthening of the body, develops beautiful bodyline, and builds stage presence, musicality & a sense of individual style. One recital dance and costume.

Jazz C1-2 (7th grade & up 12 yrs & up)

This one-hour energized fun beginner class focuses jazz technique with both classic music & current music of today. Each class begins with a set warm-up in which each exercise is taught & broken-down in clear detail. After the Warm-up, a piece of choreography in a “classic jazz” style is taught & studied. These classes are the recommended class for the dancer who is preparing for High School Dance Teams. One recital dance and costume.

This one-hour advanced class will expose dancers to more advanced & diverse choreography, challenging them to elevate their level of training while maintaining a strong focus on their core jazz technique. After the Warm-up, a piece of choreography in a “classic jazz” style is taught & studied. The choreography is designed to incorporate the technique taught in the warm-up & nurture the artistic development of the dancers. One recital dance and costume. Dance Team Prep takes this class.

Pilates

The body’s center is axis from which all movements begin and end. Pilates enables dancers to improve and maintain balance and control. This class will give the dancer the advantage of the core strength used when dancers are performing big leaps that look elegant as well as pirouetting across the dance floor with ease and grace. No Recital Dance.

Lengthen, Stretch & Flex (9yrs old-Up)

Must be 9 by August 31, 2017

This one hour long class will include various methods of flexibility exercise and stretching with the purpose of improving performance as well as preventing injury.  Flexibility is typically defined as the range of motion available around a joint; specifically cover the area of dynamic flexibility and warm-up. This class is a complement to every dance regime. Using foam rollers, massage balls & resistance bands, you will be led through a series of mild to deep stretches. Yoga Mat is required.
